The Dombivli-Bhiwandi bridge or Mankoli-Motagaon bridge is one of the crucial infrastructure projects for people living in the Kalyan-Dombivli belt.
Currently, there are two routes from Dombivli to Mumbai. The first is from Dombivli-Mumbra-Thane-Mulund-NH3-Mumbai Fort. Second is the Dombivli-Kalyan-Bhiwandi-Bypass-NH3-Mumbai. Both routes are heavily congested. Travelling from Dombivli to Kalyan can take as long as 2 hours during peak traffic hours.
Hence, this bridge will ease the traffic issues and, most importantly, it will reduce the time of commute from Dombivli to Thane to just half an hour. It will also reduce vehicular movement on the 2 longer routes.
The six-lane bridge is being constructed on the creek between Motagaon in Dombivli and Mankoli on the Bhiwandi side.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is in charge of constructing the Mankoli-Motagaon bridge. The estimated cost of this project is 223 crores. The 6-lane bridge will be 980m long.
This bridge will benefit 60 lakh people who travel via this route daily. Efforts are underway to connect this bridge to the Kalyan-Dombivli ring road.
Current Status
In October 2022, a meeting was held between Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and MMRDA officials to review the progress of the Mankoli bridge. The MMRDA commissioner informed that 80% of the construction work was complete. The Mankoli-Motagaon bridge will be open to the public by April 2023.
History
The former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis laid the foundation stone for this project in December 2016. The completion time was set for 36 months. However, because of the delay in land acquisition from the Bhiwandi end and the COVID-19 pandemic, the work got delayed.
Impact on Real Estate
The Motagaon Mankoli bridge boosts connectivity between Dombivli, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, and Thane. By reducing the commute time, it will provide immense relief to lakhs of office-goers who travel to Thane, Bhiwandi, Mulund and other parts of Mumbai.
Such great connectivity will boost the demand for affordable housing in areas of Dombivli, Kalyan and Bhiwandi.
